Ear inflammation may not require antibiotics
If your child’s ears become inflamed, the most important thing is to take them to the hospital for proper examination and treatment by a doctor.
The pediatrician will diagnose whether the inflammation is due to a bacterial infection or a viral infection.
Here are some American Association of Family Physicians’ recommendations on how to treat a child’s ear inflammation.
First, if the inflammation is caused by a bacterial infection, the doctor will prescribe antibiotics. Second, if the inflammation is caused by a viral infection, one antibiotic cannot cure it, so it is impossible to prescribe only one antibioticDesirable results.
Third, you can give your child an analgesic, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
Unless your doctor says you can take aspirin, don’t let your child eat aspirin.
Fourth, place a thermoelectric blanket next to the ears to make the ears feel warmer and relieve pain.
Fifth, the doctor may prescribe ear drops for you
